Google Ads for Fashion Brands: Shopping, Performance Max, Search & YouTube

When someone searches for your category or your name, they are already shopping. Google is where that demand gets captured — or handed to a competitor.

What does a Google Ads agency do for fashion brands?

A Google Ads agency builds and runs Shopping, Performance Max, Search and YouTube campaigns. For fashion brands most of the work starts in the product feed — sizes, colors and variants in Google Merchant Center — then separating brand from non-brand demand and valuing sales net of returns.

Who It’s For

We’re a fit if

  • People already search for your brand or your product category.
  • You sell on Shopify (or similar) with a product feed in Google Merchant Center — or you’re ready to set one up.
  • You want steady, intent-driven sales alongside Meta and TikTok.

Not a fit if

  • Nobody searches for what you sell yet — start with discovery on Meta, TikTok or Pinterest.
  • You can’t keep product data (stock, prices, sizes) accurate.
  • You only want brand-name search to look cheap in a report.

What you get every month

Everything We Run, Every Month

  1. 01

    Merchant Center feed for apparel

Titles, images and the attributes Google needs for clothing — color, size, gender, age group, variant grouping — because on Shopping, the feed is the ad.

  2. 02

    Shopping and Performance Max structure

Campaigns split by margin, category and best sellers, not one catch-all campaign that spends wherever Google prefers.

  3. 03

    Brand vs. non-brand

Searches you would have won anyway kept apart from the ones that bring in new customers, so you know what the spend is really buying.

  4. 04

    Demand Gen and YouTube

Video and image ads on YouTube and Google’s feeds to build demand for new collections, not just harvest it.

  5. 05

    Promotions and seasons

Merchant Center promotions, seasonal budgets and bidding adjustments planned ahead of drops and holidays.

  6. 06

    Returns-adjusted value

Google’s conversion adjustments let returned orders be retracted and partial returns restated, so bidding learns from sales that stay sold.

Why fashion is different

How Fashion Is Different On Google

Search is intent-led, so the method shows up in the feed and the assets: who searches for this product, and in which words.

  • Variants are everything

One dress in six sizes and four colors is 24 products to Google. Grouped and labelled correctly, shoppers see their size in stock; done badly, products get disapproved or show the wrong variant.

  • Titles are targeting

Shoppers search in their own words — “linen midi dress”, “wedding guest dress”. Product titles and attributes decide which searches a product can match.

  • Seasonality is sharp

Demand for occasion and seasonal pieces spikes and drops fast. Budgets, promotions and assets have to move with it.

  • Returns hide in the averages

High-return items can look like winners in Google Ads. Valuing sales net of returns keeps bidding honest.

How we run it

How We Run Google Ads With The MoonDesk Scaling Method

We build every account around persona × angle testing: we define the customer personas, match each one with the angles most likely to persuade them, and test those concepts in Meta’s Andromeda-era delivery system, iterating every week on what the data shows.

See the full method
  1. Week 1

Feed audit in Merchant Center, account and tracking review, brand vs non-brand baseline.

  2. Weeks 2–4

Feed fixes and the new campaign structure go live; asset groups built around personas and categories.

  3. Month 2 →

Weekly search-term and product reads, feed improvements, and tests on new audiences and video.

Example

Personas show up as search terms and asset groups: the same rain jacket titled and pictured for the commuter (“waterproof cycling jacket”) and for the traveller (“packable travel rain jacket”). Two asset groups, two messages, one product.

FAQ

Google Ads For Fashion Brands: FAQ

Still curious? Book a strategy session with Hugo

Are Google Ads worth it for clothing brands?

Google Ads are usually worth it for clothing brands once people search for the brand or the product category, because those shoppers are already looking to buy. Brands with little search demand often start with Meta, TikTok or Pinterest to build it, then add Google Shopping.

Should a fashion brand use Shopping or Performance Max?

Most fashion brands use both: Performance Max for reach across Google’s inventory and Standard Shopping where tighter control over products matters. Since October 2024, Performance Max no longer automatically takes priority over Standard Shopping on the same products — Ad Rank decides — so the two can be planned side by side.

Do I need to bid on my own brand name?

Bidding on your brand name protects the search from competitors and resellers, but brand clicks are cheap partly because many of those shoppers would have found you anyway. We keep brand and non-brand separate so you can see what each is really worth.

What does Google need in a clothing product feed?

For apparel in the US, Google Merchant Center requires color, gender and age group, plus size for clothing and shoes, and an item group ID to tie the sizes and colors of one product together — on top of the basics like title, price, availability and images.

Do you run YouTube ads for fashion brands?

Yes. We use YouTube and Demand Gen campaigns to introduce new collections and creators to people who haven’t searched for you yet, then capture that demand with Shopping and Search.

How do returns affect Google Ads for fashion?

Returns make Google Ads results look better than they are, because the sale is counted before the item comes back. Google lets advertisers retract returned orders and restate partial returns within 55 days, so we report net of returns and feed those adjustments back where the order data allows.
